The editorial team at Worldatlas.com is looking for a an editor to work on their our Science/Geography Sections.
A bit about who we are:
WorldAtlas has been around since the early 90s, and it started as an online tool to get information on maps of the world, flags, and facts about different nations, since then we've expanded to an educational tool for students and adults as well as a source of entertainment. We have articles such as "The Difference Between Photosynthesis And Respiration In Plants" to "The Biggest Events In American History In The 21st Century," lots of maps and geographic locations.
What Editing for World Atlas looks like:
You will be looking over our writers' work. This includes checking for grammar and spelling, fact-checking, and sourcing photos for each article. You will be expected to edit 40-45 articles per month. WorldAtlas expects articles to be informative but also easy to read and accessible to a wide audience. Typically, articles are in the form of listicles and the word count per article is around 1,200 words.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, History, Social Sciences, Economics, Political Science, Physics, Journalism, or a related field.
• Experience:
• At least 1 year of experience in publishing, whether online or traditional.
• Proven experience in digital editing and content management.
• Skills and Knowledge:
• Strong interest in geography and travel.
• Proficient in SEO best practices.
• Skilled in using analytical tools like Google Analytics and SEMRush to analyze traffic data.
• Exceptional command of written English, including grammar, clarity, and accuracy.
• Rigorous fact-checking skills.
• Capabilities in editing or coordinating multimedia content such as maps, infographics, and videos.
• Leadership: Ability to lead a team of writers.
• Cultural Sensitivity: Awareness of cultural sensitivities and global nuances, essential for a site focusing on global geography.
• Portfolio: Must include at least 3 published articles in Geography, History, Social Sciences, Economics, Political Science, Physics, or Journalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced Degrees: Master’s Degree or PhD in any of the fields mentioned above.
• Research Publication: Publications in relevant fields are highly regarded.
