Job Description
The Actuarial department of the Crum & Forster Accident & Health division is looking for a multi-talented individual to join this fast paced, dynamic team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial environment but with the benefits of a smaller organization and the security, stability, and opportunity of a large conglomerate. You will interact directly with all points from senior executives to customers, with visibility throughout the organization and a direct impact on the bottom line.
What you will do:
Leadership
Leads process improvement and leverage technology solutions
Ability to work collaboratively with business and shared service leaders to support all actuarial aspects.
In conjunction with the Chief Actuary sets the mid to long term strategy for the broader Actuarial group and their assigned business units.
Provide the leadership necessary to maintain a motivated, productive and competent team through open communication and delegation of responsibilities and authority. Including using performance metrics to track team performance and provide corrective action.
Be a team leader and builder who has an eye for talent with the ability to maximize resources and capability to deliver business results.
Demonstrate strong mentoring, relationship building, planning and organizational skills.
Guide and direct team members in their personal and professional development.
Drive performance excellence through goal-setting, quality feedback, and performance appraisals within the team (midyear and annual).
Create a working environment where productivity can be sustained and accomplished, and where innovation and personal growth is encouraged and realized.
Refer matters beyond limits of authority and expertise to manager for direction
Drive and role model the A&H culture, values and C&F core competencies within their teams.
Experience Analysis
Create and maintain profitability analyses and reviews for all product lines
Analyze program experience and develop appropriate corrective actions
Create analyses for underwriters and senior management in support of new and existing programs
Assist in the due diligence of potential new programs
Assist underwriting in the preparation of experience rating and provide actuarial guidance on risk selection
Perform ad-hoc analyses as directed
Create, maintain and update existing experience analysis tools and models
Pricing and Reserving
Develop rating support and memorandums for submission to state Department of Insurance
Manage and respond to filing objections
`Familiarity with state regulations and requirements for rate filings
Analyze and review industry manuals
Develop underwriting guidelines – credibility tables, completion factors, and experience rating
Produce rating and portfolio management tools for underwriters
Leverage internal dashboards to assist underwriters and recommend pricing adjustments
Assist in the preparation of monthly reserve reviews
Prepare recommendations for reserve changes

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience required
At least 15+ years of Actuarial experience
Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
3+ years prior people management experience
Strong Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Access, and some programming skills (SQL, SAS, VBA)
Must abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F’s risk management controls
Ability to travel (20-30%)

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $142,900.00 to a maximum of $268,600.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
