Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Truck Dispatcher to join our logistics team. In this role, you will coordinate the efficient movement of freight by scheduling and dispatching trucks, ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining seamless communication between drivers, customers, and internal departments. Responsibilities
• Assign and dispatch trucks using vehicle dispatch software and transportation management systems such as Oracle Transportation Management and AS400.
• Monitor GPS and GIS data to track vehicle locations, optimize routes, and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
• Communicate effectively with drivers via multi-line phone systems, ensuring clear instructions and real-time updates on freight status.
• Coordinate shipping & receiving schedules, manage freight documentation, and oversee shipping & receiving processes to maintain accuracy.
• Collaborate with internal teams on logistics planning, supply chain coordination, and transportation scheduling to meet delivery deadlines.
• Maintain detailed records of dispatch activities, driver logs, and incident reports through data entry in SyteLine and other systems.
• Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries promptly and professionally while managing phone call etiquette.
Skills
• Strong knowledge of road transportation operations, fleet management, and logistics principles.
• Proficiency in transportation management systems such as Oracle Transportation Management, Vehicle Dispatch Software, and AS400.
• Familiarity with GIS, GPS technology, and route optimization tools for efficient dispatching.
• Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—and phone etiquette for effective internal communication with drivers and external customers.
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while managing multi-line phone systems.
• Ability to analyze data related to freight movements, vehicle utilization, and supply chain performance for continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations to ensure compliance during all transportation activities.
• Experience with shipping & receiving procedures, freight documentation, and 3PL (third-party logistics) operations.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications including Excel for data analysis and reporting; familiarity with SyteLine ERP system is a plus.
• Strong typing skills for efficient data entry; understanding of transportation planning strategies is highly desirable.
