Ideal Candidate
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Minimum 3 years of Acute Care Utilization Review experience in a hospital setting
• OR 1 year of recent Remote Utilization Review experience
• Previous Travel Experience Required (including remote travel assignments)
• Recent Epic experience within the last 6–12 months
• Strong working knowledge of InterQual Criteria (Required)
• Experience with Medicare regulations, HMOs, IPAs, and utilization management processes
• Self-motivated with excellent critical thinking, communication, and time management skills
Responsibilities
• Perform concurrent and continued stay utilization reviews using InterQual criteria
• Determine medical necessity and ensure compliance with evidence-based guidelines
• Complete admission, retrospective, pre-certification, and prior authorization reviews
• Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams to support appropriate patient care
• Review appeals, denials, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Document all utilization review activities accurately within Epic while maintaining CMS, HIPAA, and organizational standards
Important Assignment Requirements
• Acute Care Hospital Utilization Review experience is required
• InterQual proficiency is a non-negotiable requirement
• Recent Epic experience is required
• Must be available to rotate between three supported facilities
• Every third weekend rotation required based on department needs
• Must strictly follow Pacific Time scheduling and California labor regulations
• Overtime is not permitted unless pre-approved by leadership
