Senior Systems Programmer (MQ)

SYSTEMTEC is seeking a Senior Systems Programmer (MQ) for a remote opportunity (3 days week onsite, 2 days remote if you are located in Columbia, SC. The Candidate will act as a senior-level technical expert responsible for maintaining and optimizing enterprise messaging systems within a mainframe environment. This role will focus on hands-on administration, incident resolution, and supporting system enhancements to ensure high availability and performance of critical messaging infrastructure. Required Qualifications of the Senior Systems Programmer (MQ): • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies. • 6+ years of IT experience, including systems programming in a mainframe environment • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; OR 4 years of relevant work experience; OR an Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field combined with 2 years of relevant work experience. • Hands-on experience administering IBM MQ on z/OS, including queue manager and queue configuration • Strong knowledge of JCL and core mainframe/host system technologies • Experience creating, monitoring, and maintaining queues and queue managers in production environments • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve system issues, including performance and queue depth challenges • Experience supporting enterprise production systems with a focus on stability and uptime • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced operational setting • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Preferred Skills / Experience of theSenior Systems Programmer (MQ): • Experience with CICS, COBOL, Unix/Linux (zLinux), IBM WebSphere MQ Responsibilities of the Senior Systems Programmer (MQ): • Provide day-to-day support for MQ environments, resolving test and production issues • Create and configure queue managers and queues based on business and project needs • Monitor system health, including queue depth and performance, and take corrective action as needed • Troubleshoot system errors and analyze logs to identify and resolve root causes • Support system upgrades, enhancements, and new environment implementations • Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours or weekend support as required Work Location: Remote BUT Hybrid role (3 days a week onsite, 2 days remote) in Columbia, SC if you reside in SC Compensation / Benefits: Full-Time Employment with SYSTEMTEC means competitive compensation, access to health, dental, disability, and life coverage, and 401(k) with match.
