Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Franklin Fitch is an established professional services organization looking to build a new AI practice. The Staff AI Engineer will design and build custom AI solutions for large enterprise clients, working hands-on to deliver production-grade solutions and influencing the growth of the practice.
Responsibilities
- Design and build custom agentic and automation solutions for large enterprise clients, from intake automation to case and process tracking
- Assess client requirements and independently decide on the right technical approach, whether that's OpenAI, Claude/Anthropic tooling, Azure AI Foundry, Copilot, or another platform
- Build hands-on, production-grade solutions rather than proofs of concept, owning the technical build end to end.Bring practical, hands-on AI capability into a legal environment where technical depth is still rare, giving you real influence over how the practice is built and positioned
- Work cross-functionally with an engagement or project lead who manages client-facing communication, freeing you to focus on engineering.Cross-train across AI platforms and contribute to a small, senior technical team with a spread of complementary strengths
- Bring sample work or portfolio material where possible to demonstrate genuine hands-on ownership of past builds
Skills
- Meaningful hands-on experience building and deploying agents at scale
- Practical, production experience with one major AI platform: OpenAI/ChatGPT, Anthropic/Claude, Azure AI Foundry, or Copilot
- Strong software engineering fundamentals across backend, full-stack, or ML engineering, with a genuine track record of building rather than managing
- Comfortable working independently on ambiguous problems, translating a business or process challenge into a working technical solution
- Exposure to agentic frameworks or multi-agent orchestration
- Cloud experience across major providers
- Familiarity with more than one major AI platform, with willingness to cross-train in to others
- Prior experience in a build-stage or greenfield team, comfortable without heavy process or established playbooks
