Novelis is one of the world leaders in aluminum recycling and rolling, and they are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support high volume aluminum coating and slitting processes. The role involves providing engineering support, managing projects, and ensuring compliance with safety standards in a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
- Participate in & support all aspects of the Novelis safety systems and Safety Absolutes
- Ensure work done aligns with all corporate, plant, and regulatory safety standards
- Ensure safety is designed into all aspects of assigned projects
- Ensure vendors and contractors meet Novelis safety requirements
- Engage collaboratively & participate in support of the plant single-agenda and plant ethos
- Provide Engineering Support for industrial continuous coating lines, multiple slitting machine centers, & facility systems
- Provide specific support to fix equipment issues and perform root cause analysis
- Develop & implement corrective and preventive actions to improve asset reliability
- Lead and support capital projects & other improvement projects from a mechanical engineering standpoint collaborating for on-time & on-budget results
- Support outages and shutdown work in coordination with reliability, operations & supply chain
- Manage vendors, contractors, and internal project teams as needed
- Support the site Reliability Excellence process through participation in and support of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, spares planning & management, reliability best practices, etc
- Support the Novelis Operating System (NOS) as they relate to Reliability Excellence & Operator Care Practices
- Other items as assigned
- Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable
Skills
- Mechanical engineering degree, or degree in related engineering field, required
- Minimum 3 years of related industrial experience, including planning, specification, and implementation of engineering design projects
- Technical and process management skills are needed in this position, with potential ability to work multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong knowledge of maintenance processes is beneficial
- Must possess strong decision making and problem-solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved
- Ability to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case-by-case basis as encountered
- Must have the ability and confidence to make decisions relating to role's accountabilities
- Ability to exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed
- Ability to lead and participate collaboratively
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- CMMS experience
- Experience in aluminum or steel manufacturing
- Exposure to TPM, Lean, or Six Sigma
- AutoCAD or SolidWorks knowledge
