The Legal Counsel, HR Services role provides internal employment law guidance to HR client partners, serving as an escalation resource for legal review and guidance on various employment law topics.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an escalation point to the Elevate HR services team, providing legal support and guidance
- Provide guidance on risk considerations, compliance factors, and legally sound options that client HR partners can appropriately relay to clients
- Assist client HR partners in framing compliant guidance that aligns with Paylocity’s service scope and contractual limitations
- Operate independently to provide internal direction on a wide range of employment law topics, including wage and hour policy implications, leave of absence and workplace accommodations, employee relations and terminations, workplace conduct issues, etc
- Analyze employment scenarios using client-specific facts, policies, and workforce practices in conjunction with applicable laws
- Support interpretation of multi-state employment law requirements for HR services and HR professionals advising clients operating across jurisdictions
- Develop and deliver training sessions, legal updates, and education materials for client internal partners
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Elevate HR leadership, and other internal parties on defining and maintaining legal guardrails and escalation criteria for Elevate HR services
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on HR compliance, risk mitigation, and service quality
- Assist with creating internal tools and resources to support consistent and compliant HR advisory services
- Provide support for any other Elevate offerings, product compliance and internal employment matters as necessary
Skills
- JD required + admission in good standing to any State / DC bar
- 6+ years of employment law experience
- Multi-state employment law experience
- Ability to clearly explain legal concepts to non-legal audience
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day
- Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously
- Experience supporting HR outsourcing or employer services organizations
