Papiamento Interpreter

Job Description: • Handle on-demand telephone interpreting sessions between Papiamento and English speakers • Render correct concepts and meanings according to interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation and polite expressions • Maintain professional demeanor and follow client instructions and protocol • Work across industries including Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911 • Remain calm during emergency or emotional calls (including 911) and provide required company standards of service • May remain on calls for extended periods without breaks and handle high call volumes • Interpret verbally only (this position does not involve written translation) • Ensure a quiet and secure home-office environment for remote work Requirements: • Fluency in Papiamento and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences • Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills • Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective at all times • Ability to remain on calls that involve sensitive subjects and remain on calls for extended periods without breaks • Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred • Must be at least 18 years of age • Legally authorized to work in the United States; applicants must have work authorization that does not require sponsorship now or in the future • High school diploma or equivalent • Ability to read and write the requested languages - highly preferred • Candidates currently employed by a client of LanguageLine Solutions or an affiliated LanguageLine Solutions business may not be eligible • Based on location, a post-offer, pre-employment background check and/or drug screen may be required • Dedicated personal device for business purposes (desktop/laptop/tablet/smartphone acceptable) • Operating systems: Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS or Android supported • Restricted brands: Kaspersky products and Huawei hardware • High speed Internet connection: download >= 5 Mbps, upload >= 3 Mbps, Ping <= 300 ms, Jitter <= 30 ms • Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction • Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain stationary for majority of workday • Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write • Able to lift up to 26 lbs • Must be able to adapt to any LLS technology enhancements that improve service delivery and meet client demands Benefits: • Employee Referral Program • Advancement opportunities within the organization • Interpreter support (Senior Language Specialist, Interpreter and Technology Help Desks) • Training described as "the best in the industry" • Inclusive and diverse work environment • Work at Home / remote position • Certified ASTM and ISO environment • Reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities
