Mechanical Design Engineer – Power Transformers Role: Mechanical Design Engineer – Power Transformers Location: Trotwood, OH (On-site) Employment Type: Full-time Role Overview We are hiring for one of our clients seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of medium and high-voltage power transformers (up to 69 kV / 20 MVA). This role plays a critical part in advancing smart grid systems, renewable energy integration, and modern digital monitoring technologies. The engineer will contribute to building eco-efficient, reliable, and high-performance transformer systems essential to global energy transition efforts. Key Responsibilities • Design mechanical components and assemblies that meet safety, performance, and cost objectives. • Conduct calculations and simulations for stress, thermal performance, structural analysis, and cooling requirements. • Develop mechanical layouts, cooling systems, and structural components based on customer specifications. • Design winding and insulation systems ensuring thermal efficiency and high-voltage reliability. • Collaborate with global teams across engineering, manufacturing, and testing functions. • Prepare detailed engineering documentation and participate in technical discussions with customers. • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to streamline production and reduce lead times. • Ensure adherence to IEEE, ASME, ISO, UL, and other international standards. Required Qualifications & Experience • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design or product development. • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, 3D CAD tools, simulation tools, and automation workflows. • Deep understanding of structural materials, thermal systems, fluid dynamics, and mechanical components. • Knowledge of transformer core materials, winding techniques, insulation, and electromagnetics. • Experience collaborating with global engineering teams. • Experience with SAP is an advantage. • Strong commitment to continuous improvement and technical innovation.
