MakeUseOf - News Writer

This position will operate on a remote, freelance basis. Applicants must be located in the US or Canada. Are you an experienced tech writer with a knack for cutting through the noise and getting to the point fast? Do you keep up with the latest developments across PC hardware, software, and the ever-evolving world of digital entertainment? MakeUseOf is looking for News Writers to cover timely, informative technology news in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Coverage Areas Include: • PC & Mobile: Laptops, desktops, smartphones (Android/iPhone), tablets, and peripherals. • Technical: Networking, privacy, security, Linux, and "under-the-hood" hardware analysis. • Software: Operating systems (Windows/macOS), productivity apps, web services, and AI tools. • Screen: Streaming platforms, gaming consoles, TV hardware, and digital entertainment trends. • Home: Smart home devices, IoT, homelab setups, and home office technology. Job Responsibilities: • Contribute reliably and consistently under tight, news-cycle deadlines. • Stay ahead of the latest technology news, product launches, and ecosystem updates. • Coordinate with the editorial team for assignments and constructive feedback. • Input work into our in-house CMS according to editorial and SEO guidelines. Applicants must be self-starters and possess the following: • Relevant experience writing and editing tech content in English. • The ability to contextualize complex updates and explain their impact on the average user. • Strong familiarity with one or more of the coverage areas listed above. • Ability to work and coordinate within a US time zone.
