About the role
The Junior Accounting Associate plays a central role in managing the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations. This role will be responsible for accounts payable, payroll processing, and day-to-day transactional activities. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of accounting principles, is organized, and can work both independently and collaboratively.
What you'll do
The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner
Manage accounts payable functions, including invoice coding, approvals, and payment processing
Maintain vendor records and assist with vendor communication
Support weekly payment runs (checks, ACH, wires)
Assist with employee expense report review and processing
Support payroll processing, including data entry and coordination with HR or third-party providers
Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for all transactions
Assist with resolving discrepancies related to invoices, payments, or payroll
Support audit requests by providing necessary documentation
Perform other administrative and accounting support tasks as needed
Assist with bank and credit card reconciliations
Analyze financial data and investigate variances
Maintain supporting documentation for all accounting transactions
Help improve accounting processes and support automation initiatives
Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments (e.g., Programs, HR, Operations, FP&A)
Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
0-2 years of accounting experience, including AP, payroll, and reconciliations.
Basic understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
Familiarity with accounting systems (e.g., Deltek, NetSuite, SAP, or similar ERP) is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (basic formulas, data entry, organization)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to follow established processes and meet deadlines
Basic analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication skills with the ability to work in a remote environment, including staying responsive and participating in team communications during working hours
Demonstrated ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and work independently in a fully remote environment.
Familiarity with 1099 compliance.
Comfortable working with cloud-based accounting tools and reporting platforms.
