About the Opportunity An emerging AI-driven oncology company is seeking a highly connected and scientifically sophisticated business development executive to help lead strategic partnering efforts with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies globally.
The company is leveraging advanced artificial intelligence, translational science, and next-generation therapeutic approaches to develop innovative oncology programs, including antibody and conjugate-based technologies. The organization is focused on identifying and advancing differentiated oncology opportunities with strong potential for strategic partnerships and long-term clinical impact.
This opportunity is ideal for a senior industry leader who combines deep scientific fluency in oncology with a proven ability to originate, cultivate, and execute strategic licensing and collaboration deals. The ideal candidate has an active and current network across pharma and biotech business development organizations, understands where large pharmaceutical companies are investing, and knows how to position emerging oncology programs to sophisticated deal teams and decision-makers.
This role may begin in an advisory or fractional capacity with the potential to evolve into a full-time executive leadership position as the organization scales.
Position Summary The Chief Business Officer / Head of Business Development will lead corporate partnering strategy and external business development initiatives across the company’s oncology portfolio and AI-enabled therapeutic platform efforts. This individual will play a central role in shaping the company’s external strategy, helping establish and expand relationships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, strategic investors, and potential collaborators.
The ideal candidate brings
• Deep relationships across pharma and biotech business development and licensing teams
• Strong scientific understanding of oncology therapeutics, antibodies, biologics, and conjugate technologies
• Experience structuring and closing licensing, co-development, or strategic collaboration agreements
• Insight into current pharma pipeline priorities, external innovation strategies, and emerging oncology investment trends
• The ability to translate complex scientific and AI-driven therapeutic approaches into compelling partnership opportunities
This individual must be equally comfortable engaging scientific leaders, corporate strategy teams, executive leadership, and sophisticated partner organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Development
• Develop and execute partnering strategies for AI-enabled oncology programs and therapeutic platform technologies
• Identify and cultivate relationships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies aligned with the company’s oncology focus
• Lead outreach, relationship development, and strategic discussions with BD, licensing, R&D, and corporate strategy teams
• Build and manage a robust pipeline of potential partners, collaborations, and strategic opportunities
• Represent the company at industry conferences, partnering events, investor meetings, and scientific forums
Transaction Leadership
• Lead evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and execution of licensing, co-development, and strategic collaboration agreements
• Coordinate diligence processes across scientific, legal, and executive stakeholders
• Help shape partnering narratives, non-confidential presentations, scientific positioning materials, and strategic messaging
• Advise leadership on valuation, transaction strategy, and market dynamics
Scientific & Market Positioning
• Translate complex oncology science and AI-enabled discovery approaches into compelling strategic narratives for pharma audiences
• Provide insight into competitive landscapes, emerging oncology trends, and pharmaceutical external innovation priorities
