Job Description:
The client is seeking a full-time remote GIS technician to map and add attributes for approximately 25,000 existing legal documents (primarily deeds, easements and judgements). This GIS technician will be responsible for the following:
Responsibilities:
• Review and map legal documents received by Real Property Services.
• Interpret legal descriptions and geographical identifiers to create GIS features.
• Use ArcGIS Pro to digitally map legal descriptions into highly accurate spatial data.
• Create lines and polygon features based on written legal descriptions.
• Access and review .tif and .pdf documents stored in SQL databases.
• Populate GIS attributes including TPU Reference Numbers and County Recording Numbers.
• Add links to source documentation within GIS datasets.
• Coordinate with IT GIS staff for QA/QC processes.
• Validate mapping accuracy and perform edits as needed.
• Communicate with Real Estate Specialists to resolve mapping complexities.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings and ongoing project discussions.
• Maintain productivity targets of mapping 50–100 legal documents monthly.
• Support development and delivery of ArcGIS geodatabase solutions.
Required Skills:
• Strong hands-on experience with ArcGIS Pro.
• Broad understanding of legal documents such as deeds, easements, vacations, and judgments.
• Ability to read and understand legal descriptions.
• Experience creating GIS features from written legal descriptions.
• Strong understanding of GIS feature classes and geodatabase structures.
• Experience performing GIS data QA/QC.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience supporting utilities, public sector, or land records projects.
• Knowledge of SQL databases.
• Familiarity with property records and county recording systems.
• Experience handling large-scale GIS data projects.
Deliverables:
• Map 50–100 legal documents monthly.
• Collaborate with real property experts regarding complex documents.
• Deliver an ArcGIS geodatabase containing approximately 25,000 mapped legal documents.
