Field Service Engineer – Laboratory & Biomedical Equipment

• *Job Summary** QRS Lab & Medical Repair keeps research running by servicing laboratory refrigerators, incubators, centrifuges, freezers, sterilizers, and other critical systems from our Pittsburgh base, and we're now launching Cleveland operations focused on biomedical and adjacent life-sciences instrumentation. We're hiring a full-time Field Service Engineer based in Cleveland, OH who will work from home and spend most days on client sites such as research labs, hospital facilities, and occasional in-home research environments while supporting complex lab equipment across the region. The role suits a hands-on troubleshooter who enjoys solving root-cause issues independently while partnering closely with clients. The technician in this role will serve as the primary regional representative within the MERA service network, supporting multiple manufacturers for maintenance and repair. This position requires strong troubleshooting ability across basic electronics, electro-mechanical systems, and mechanical assemblies. Approximately 25% travel is expected outside of Cleveland, with the majority being same-day trips. • *About QRS** QRS Lab & Medical Repair’s mission is to enable scientific breakthroughs in our region. We are pursuing our ISO 9001:2015 certification, and work closely with researchers, laboratory managers and QA/QC leads. • *About MERA** Medical Equipment Repair Associates (MERA) is an invite-only national network of independent service organizations that support laboratory and biomedical equipment manufacturers across the country. MERA is ISO 9001:2015 certified and maintains strict standards for service quality and training. Through this network, companies like QRS act as regional representatives for participating manufacturers in areas where they do not maintain a direct service presence. In this role, QRS will be supporting the Cleveland territory, providing local, qualified service while upholding manufacturer standards and expectations. • *Responsibilities • Diagnose, maintain, and repair laboratory and biomedical equipment across the Cleveland region • Troubleshoot electrical, electro-mechanical, and mechanical systems down to component level • Perform preventative maintenance in line with manufacturer procedures and documentation • Document every service activity clearly and share findings with clients and manufacturer partners • Represent QRS and MERA professionally at research institutions and life-science facilities • Self-schedule, prioritize, and complete service calls with minimal supervision • Travel outside of Cleveland (~25%) as-needed • Maintain proactive communication with clients, teammates, and MERA coordinators • Organize personal tools, test equipment, and documentation so field visits stay efficient • Contribute to a collaborative, solutions-focused team culture • *Qualifications • Deep understanding of electronics, electro-mechanical systems, and mechanical assemblies • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings • Comfort following technical manuals, service documentation, and manufacturer SOPs • Hands-on experience troubleshooting technical equipment in the field or in a lab • Capacity to work independently, manage a territory, and keep commitments without daily oversight • Strong problem-solving instincts, attention to detail, and methodical diagnostic habits • Professional, client-facing communication skills with scientists, facilities teams, and manufacturers • English proficiency for technical documentation and reporting • High school diploma or GED required; advanced technical training is a plus • Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and ability & willingness to travel • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs, work hands-on in labs, and pass background/drug screenings for regulated client sites • Authorization to work in the United States • Prior experience with laboratory, biomedical, or industrial instrumentation is preferred but not required • Possess an iOS device running iOS 15 or newer or an Android device running Android 12 or newer to run service applications (roughly five years old or newer) • Ability to supply or quickly acquire the core Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
