Job Overview
As a General Education Paraeducator at Brewster Elementary, you will be responsible for providing academic support and guidance to students in a general education setting. This is a part-time position, working 5.5 hours per day, 5 days a week, following the traditional school year calendar. You will be working closely with teachers and other staff members to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of our students. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and implementing academic support for students in the general education program
- Help students understand assignments and assist with projects/research as directed by the classroom teacher
- Administer appropriate tests to students and maintain records of activities, such as daily logs, assignment sheets, and attendance records
- Operate office and instructional equipment, and order materials for classroom use as directed by the teacher or principal
- Conduct learning exercises with groups of children and monitor students' classroom testing results to inform planning
- Attend parent/teacher or teacher/student conferences when requested by the teacher or principal
- Support the dispensation and documentation of medication as outlined under district regulations and the student's Medical Management Plan
- Perform other duties and functions as assigned by the building or program administrator
Essential Qualifications
- Post-secondary credentials required, per Rochester Paraeducator Association Master Agreement
- Completed at least two years of higher education in an approved program, or received an Associate's or higher degree
- Passed state or local tests designed to demonstrate knowledge and ability in subject areas, such as the ETS ParaPro Assessment or MTTC-Professional Readiness Exam
- Patience and ability to effectively interact and maintain a professional rapport with students, teachers, parents, and other staff members
- Strong command of the English language
- Experience supporting elementary instructional programs preferred
- Competency required to provide academic support with appropriate level curriculum
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
- Experience providing students with academic support, such as tutoring or mentoring
- Ability to interact appropriately and professionally with students, parents, and staff
- Shows initiative and ability to function without explicit instructions
- Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities, including demonstrated mastery of mathematics and the components of literacy
- Excellent command of the English language, in written and spoken word
- Demonstrates mastery in computer literacy in Word and preferably Excel

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
