With a strong focus on innovation, arenaflex is constantly seeking talented individuals to join our team and contribute to our mission. **Job Summary** The Customer Service Specialist I is a critical role within our patient financial services team, responsible for handling and resolving incoming phone calls from patients, insurance carriers, and physician offices. This position requires exceptional communication skills, a strong understanding of patient financial services, and the ability to navigate complex billing systems. **Key Responsibilities** As a Customer Service Specialist I, you will be responsible for: * Handling a large volume of calls and performing work in a timely manner * Attempting to collect full payment from patients or guarantors in a professional and courteous manner * Establishing payment arrangements per guidelines and documenting terms in billing systems * Applying payments collected over the phone to each date of service * Handling customer inquiries, disputes, and complaints, escalating contentious complaints to supervisors or higher management * Obtaining all insurance, demographic, and guarantor information and updating patient profiles as well as billing third-party payers as appropriate * Clearly documenting work and follow-up steps in the system after each call **Essential Qualifications** To be successful in this role, you will need: * A high school graduate or GED certificate * A minimum of 6 months' experience in a physician billing or third-party payer environment * A strong understanding of contracts, insurance benefits, exclusions, and other billing requirements * Knowledge of claim forms, HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid, and compliance program regulations * Ability to understand and navigate the payer adjudication process * Experience with patient financial and practice management systems, preferably Epic and/or other electronic billing systems **Preferred Qualifications** While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: * Previous call center or claims experience * Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting * Knowledge of medical terminology **Compensation and Benefits** arenaflex offers a competitive hourly rate range of $21.63 - $26.44, based on experience, skill set, training, and education.
