ENVIRONMENTS DESIGNER Job Description Company // PORTER is a design-build partner for brands that care deeply about how their spaces feel, function, and perform. We design, engineer, produce, and build immersive retail environments from pop-ups to flagships. Our work lives in the details, from the first concept sketch to the final install. We believe great retail spaces don’t happen through handoffs. Strategy, design, engineering, production, and build work together from day one to protect the integrity of the idea all the way through execution. Location // This role is remote, with a preference for candidates based in Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, or Florida. Our team is distributed, but we value proximity for collaboration, team workshops, and occasional travel for client meetings and site visits. Opportunity // PORTER is seeking an Environments Designer with 5-8 years of experience designing retail environments and branded physical experiences. Candidates should come from a background in retail, experiential, hospitality, environmental, architectural, interior, or industrial design with a strong emphasis on consumer-facing spaces. You’ll help bring retail environments to life from early concept through production and build. This role is ideal for a designer who loves spatial storytelling, materials, detailing, rendering, and solving real-world design challenges with creativity and precision. You’ll work closely across Design, Engineering, Production, and Build teams to develop bold, functional, and elevated experiences that translate seamlessly from concept into reality. This role is fast-paced, collaborative, and client-facing. We’re looking for someone with strong spatial instincts, a sharp eye for detail, great taste, and the ability to give and receive feedback with professionalism, curiosity, and humor. This is not a UX/UI role. This position is centered on retail, branded environments, and spatial design. Responsibilities // • Develop architectural and/or industrial design concepts and visualizations for a range of branded environments, structures, and products. • Assist throughout all phases of projects including planning and pre-design, schematic design, design development, and production. • Collaborate with the PORTER team to deliver cohesive, brand-driven environments and experiences. • Develop evocative 3D renderings that immerse clients in our solutions and communicate the effectiveness of our ideas. • Create floor plans, site plans, material studies, and production documents that clearly communicate design intent to internal teams and external partners. • Select material samples and assemble digital material boards for client presentations. • Own the design process from early concept rendering through production, ensuring creative intent is preserved while making ideas buildable and real. • Work closely with Engineering and Production teams to refine concepts into buildable, manufacturable solutions without losing design intent. Experience // • An experienced environmental, architectural, interior, or industrial designer who can develop thoughtful solutions that respond to the goals of a client brief, the complexity of a site, and the realities of production and build. • Someone who can move fluidly between big ideas and detailed execution. • A designer with strong spatial instincts, material sensibility, and the ability to solve creatively within real-world constraints of budget, timeline, manufacturing, and site conditions. • An expert in how humans move through and interact with physical space, with an understanding of how environments influence the way people think, feel, and behave. • A detail-oriented and meticulous designer with a strong sense of composition, proportion, and storytelling within the built environment. • A collaborative designer who embraces constructive feedback and enjoys working cross-functionally to bring ideas from sketch to built reality. • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift, feedback is direct, and collaboration across disciplines is essential. Education // Bachelor’s degree in Spatial Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, or equivalent knowledge gained through education and/or relevant work experience. Skills // • Proficiency in SketchUp, Enscape, Layout, and Adobe Creative Suite is required. • Proficiency in additional 3D-based programs such as AutoCAD, Rhino, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, or Maya is a plus. • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and internet applications. • Ability to quickly Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
