About the Role Our client, a reputable non-profit organization dedicated to (Specify Mission Area, e.g., education, health, arts) in the Houston, Texas region, is seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Development Director. This is a fully remote position that will spearhead our client's grant-seeking and foundation relations efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust fundraising strategy focused on securing significant funding from foundations, corporate foundations, and government grants. You will identify funding opportunities, cultivate relationships with foundation program officers, write compelling grant proposals, and manage reporting requirements. This role is critical to ensuring the financial sustainability and growth of our client's vital programs. The ideal candidate must possess a deep understanding of grant cycles, exceptional writing skills, and a proven ability to cultivate and steward donor relationships in a remote capacity. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for grant funding and foundation relations. Identify and research potential funding sources, including private foundations, corporate foundations, and government agencies. Cultivate and maintain strong, productive relationships with foundation program officers and key contacts. Write, edit, and submit high-quality, compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports. Manage the grant application process from concept to submission, ensuring all deadlines are met. Oversee grant budgets and ensure accurate financial reporting in compliance with funder requirements. Steward existing foundation grants, ensuring fulfillment of all obligations and cultivating opportunities for renewed and increased support. Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary information for proposals and reports. Track grant outcomes and impact, and communicate results effectively to funders and internal stakeholders. Stay informed about trends in philanthropy and the non-profit sector relevant to our client's mission. Requirements Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in a related field preferred. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in non-profit fundraising, with a strong emphasis on grant writing and foundation relations. Proven track record of successfully securing significant grants from foundations and government sources. Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive narratives. Strong research, analytical, and strategic planning capabilities. Demonstrated success in cultivating and managing relationships with foundation staff and leadership. Proficiency in grant databases and research tools (e.g., Foundation Directory Online, GrantStation). Experience managing budgets and financial reporting for grants. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a remote setting. Deep understanding of the non-profit sector and a passion for our client's mission.
