About the position
San Diego Humane Society is hiring a Full-Time Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) for our Community Veterinary Program! This role delivers service at the gold standard level in alignment with the SDHS Way, to meet the needs of animals and the people who love them by leading with compassion, finding creative solutions, providing personalized care and building connections. The Community Veterinary Program (CVP) helps give owned pets the medical care they need, including low-cost preventative and basic sick care, pharmacy services, and basic grooming like nail trims and ear cleanings. Through these essential services, we help keep animals with their families and out of shelters.
Responsibilities
• Assist staff veterinarians with exams, procedures and other duties as assigned
• Perform emergency procedures (within the scope of a licensed RVT) as instructed by staff veterinarian
• Administer treatments and procedures & prepare and administer anesthetics
• Monitor animals before, during and post-surgery
• Support training of animal services staff members, volunteers, and interns, as well as new RVTs and Vet Assistants
Requirements
• California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) licensure required
• Minimum of one (1) year clinical and/or shelter experience in veterinary environment required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.
• Will be required to drive mobile unit and must have experience driving large vehicles or be willing to be trained on driving the mobile unit.

• Bilingual skills a plus, Bilingual-Spanish preferred
